Questions and answers – COVID-19 and your Bric tenancy
Please find below answers to some commonly asked questions from tenants:
Do I still have to pay my rent?
Yes – you still need to pay your usual rent amount on the due dates.
If your income has changed as a result of COVID-19, let your Tenant Services Officer know as soon as possible, so that we can review the situation.
Will my rent increase as a result of extra Centrelink payments?
No, the extra payments –‘Economic Support Payments’ – will not increase your rent.
Bric Housing will continue to review rents on an annual basis and we will give you at least 2 months’ notice of any increase.
I’ve heard that I can’t be evicted?
The freeze on evictions only applies to individuals or households directly affected by COVID-19.
If you are receiving your usual income from Centrelink, failure to pay your rent will put your tenancy at risk.
My neighbours are causing a disturbance, will this go on for another 6 months?
Bric Housing takes every tenant’s right to have quiet enjoyment of their home very seriously. Anti-social and disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.
Will there be inspections?
Bric Housing has suspended most routine inspections as a result of COVID-19, to protect the safety of tenants and staff.
Some inspections will continue, however you will receive the correct notification before a staff member or contractor arrives at your property.
Is Bric Housing still operating?
Yes – Bric is still operating, and you can contact us on our usual phone numbers both for tenancy and maintenance issues.
Please note that the Spring Hill office is only open by appointment. Contact your Tenant Services Officer to discuss any arrangements.
My usual support services are closed. Where can I get help?
If you have any concerns about receiving support, contact your Tenant Services Officer. They will do their best to connect you to a support service in your area.
What can I do to help?
Stay safe by staying home as much as possible and practicing social distancing if you need to go out. Keep a lookout for your neighbours and be kind to each other. If you think someone is struggling, ask if they need help or let your Tenant Services Officer know.
