Bric Housing was formed through the amalgamation of three like-minded community housing providers who saw an opportunity to come together to share resources and co-locate services.

Bric Timeline

How Bric Came To Be

Around 2005, against a backdrop of growing housing needs, and the introduction of the One Social Housing System, three organisations with a mutual goal of strengthening their ability
to serve their communities looked at coming together:

  • Better Housing Projects
  • Redback Housing
  • Cabbage Tree Housing (inclusive of Ti Tree Housing)

The fledgling housing group engaged 99 Consulting to produce a feasibility study into the proposed amalgamation, delivered in September 2006.

The ‘non-negotiable’ elements of an amalgamation were identified as:

  1. Local presence
  2. Local links and accountability
  3. Service to tenants
  4. Keep focus on young people and Indigenous people:
  5. Fair treatment of staff
  6. Departmental approval

In October 2007 BRIC Housing was established as a company, becoming fully operational in July 2008.

Celebrating our 15th Anniversary

In October 2023, we celebrated our 15th anniversary at an event with tenants, staff, current and previous Board Directors and so many friends and supporters of Bric!

We heard from Rhonda Phillips (inaugural Chair) about our beginnings and community roots, and from current Chair Julie Saunders about Bric’s big plans for the future;

The Mayor of Moreton Bay Cr Peter Flannery and Cr Vicki Howard spoke about Bric’s contribution to the Moreton Bay and Brisbane communities over the years.

Our Anniversary Painting

We celebrated Bric’s 15th anniversary with a painting by Uncle Gerard Bargo, who’s story of homelessness, housing and giving back to the community says so much about Bric and our tenants.

The painting proudly hangs in our reception at Little Edward Street.
